Marketing and Communications Officer

Salary:
£25,000

Hours:
Full time 37.5 hours per week

Contract type:
Permanent

Location:
Bath or Exeter

Additional information:

  • Travel across the South West may be required on occasion

The Role:

Julian House has been providing life-changing and life-saving support for vulnerable and at-risk people for 35 years, growing from a single project in Bath to deliver a range of services across the South West. Despite our reach, we are still best-known in the city where it all started.

As the charity seeks to establish itself as a significant force for tackling social exclusion across the region, we are growing our Marketing and Communications team to deliver an ambitious profile-raising strategy.
The Marketing and Communications Officer will be a vital part of this new team. Working closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will work across a wide range of activity – from managing our social media and email channels, to crafting inspiring client case studies, researching and pitching media stories and creating multimedia content which brings our work to life.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to develop themselves as a Marketing and Communications professional. You will be empowered to take the lead on projects, contribute meaningfully to our strategic goals and grow your knowledge and skills – all in support of our powerful mission to transform the daily lives and futures of people experiencing social exclusion.

Responsibilities include
:

  • Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager to deliver our profile-raising strategy for Julian House and Julian House Trading, working across PR and traditional media, social media, website, campaigns and profile-raising partnerships.
  • Using analytics tools to gather evidence about how well our owned channels are serving us, and helping to develop improvement plans where needed.
  • Working with colleagues and service users to create engaging and informative multimedia content that supports strategic goals, including written, video and graphic content.
  • Managing our social media and email channels in line with agreed strategies, ensuring that output supports agreed communications priorities throughout the year.
  • Creating compelling case studies which showcase our clients’ stories and the work of our frontline teams.
  • Maintaining the Julian House charity and Julian House Bike Workshop websites on a day-to-day basis; making recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
  • Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager to research, prepare and pitch stories to local and national media

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Demonstrable track record of creating multimedia content, including video and graphics or illustration, which inspires audiences to act.
  • Knowledge of SEO, keywords and other digital marketing tactics and tools, including how to use digital analytics to track the impact of communications and marketing output.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to create clear and compelling copy for all channels.
  • Knowledge of the homelessness or social inclusion sectors would be desirable, but not essential.

There are many great reasons to join our team!

  • Great opportunities for career development and free monthly training sessions from experienced facilitators
  • Wellbeing related support and advice and up to 6 free counselling sessions through our Employee Assistance Programme
  • 27 days annual leave, including an extra day off for your birthday, increasing up to 30 days after 4 years of continuous employment. Plus bank holidays
  • 30% staff discount at Julian House charity shops
  • 20% staff discount at Julian House bike workshops
  • A generous and competitive pension scheme
  • Instant access to healthcare professionals and discounts on a variety of health treatments through our Simply Health Scheme
  • A supportive culture where staff feedback is highly valued and regular supervisions with line managers are conducted
