Members for Restoration and Renewal Board

The Restoration and Renewal Programme is seeking to recruit a new external member for the Delivery Authority Board, as an appointee of the House of Commons and House of Lords Corporate Officers. For this reason, this recruitment is being run by Parliament rather than by the Delivery Authority itself.

As an experienced board-level individual, each Board member will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the Restoration and Renewal Programme. Interest and passion in the work of the Board and Parliament will be a prerequisite to help shape the future direction of the programme and ensure its success.

Time Commitment and Remuneration

The expected term period for external members of the Delivery Authority Board is three years. Members of the Delivery Authority Board, who may be required to chair Board Sub-Committees, will receive an annual fee of £30,000 with an anticipated time commitment of, on average, 2 to 3 working days per month.

Board members will be expected to attend bi-monthly Board meetings in person in Westminster.

Experience

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the core experience and skills outlined below:

  • Experience at board level in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity;
  • Experience of representing and advocating the Client’s priorities and views as part of programme decision making;
  • Leadership and influencing experience of other Board members, particularly with regard to championing value for money;
  • Demonstrated focus on bearing down on Programme operational and delivery costs;
  • Commercial acumen with experience of partnering and working with the supply chain to drive value for money and delivery;
  • Significant experience in overseeing major programmes, including at the development phase and/or moving from development to delivery phase;
  • Significant expertise in helping major programmes deliver their intended benefits whilst having an open mindset and able to recommend differing approaches to how this is achieved; and
  • Experience of working within a programme of significant public interest

Skills and Qualities

  • Strong communication and influencing skills; the ability to listen effectively and challenge constructively, supporting collective decisions and balancing challenge with assurance and support;
  • High credibility with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals, building productive, collaborative relationships;
  • An enquiring mind, able to grasp relevant issues and develop creative solutions;
  • The intellectual rigour to understand complex issues and risk quickly; and
  • Strong commitment to public service values such as diversity and inclusion, and the Nolan Principles of public life: Selflessness; Integrity; Objectivity; Accountability; Openness; Honesty; Leadership.

How to Apply:

Candidates should apply by submitting a CV and cover letter via the recruitment portal. Please state in your covering letter if you believe you have any current or potential conflicts of interest relating to this role.

All applicants are required to provide the following:

  • A CV (maximum three sides of A4) including any unpaid or community achievements.
  • A short supporting statement (maximum two sides of A4) giving evidence of the strength and depth of your ability to meet the criteria for the role.
