Prospectus is delighted to be partnering with our client on their search for an experienced Part Time Finance Manager. The role will play a critical role as the organisation starts its journey as a newly registered charity, ensuring efficient and professional management of the organisation’s finances. The role offered as 2 days (16hrs) per week, on a remote, hybrid or office-based location.
Established in November 2020, the organisation is an online news agency focused on covering issues that affect women and girls in Afghanistan. With their understanding of the male-dominated social relations in Afghanistan, Since the return of the Taliban in 2021, the organisation’s work has become even more vital, shining a light on the lives of women throughout Afghanistan, helping to, strengthen democracy, equality, and justice, reporting on the issues relating to women, and striving against obsolete misogynistic beliefs.
The Finance Manager will work closely with the Editor in Chief and the Board of Trustees to be responsible for financial reporting, developing and maintaining financial processes that are compliant with UK law and the Charity Commission and leading on donor reporting. The day-to-day role will take responsibility for payroll, maintaining Quickbooks, preparing statutory statements and developing sound financial policies and procedures for quarterly Board meetings. The Finance Manager will also be tasked with gathering relevant financial information for liaising with and reporting to donors, supporting the Editor in Chief in through those interactions and other fundraising activities. Given the organisation’s mission, the role presents a level of complexity when gathering timely financial information and ensuring compliance alongside working with multiple international transfer systems and currencies.
This right candidate will hold charity experience and have knowledge of the law relating to charitable organisations, and some exposure to international donor reporting would be an advantage. You will be a part/ fully qualified accountant with strong organisational and communication skills and a keen attention to detail. Passionate about the organisation’s work, you will be a proactive self-starter, keen to find solutions and comfortable working with some autonomy. Although not essential, some knowledge of the Farsi language and/or experience of payments using the Hawalla system are desirable.
