Job description

Sodexo are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate part-time Textile Tutor to work within HMP YOI Bronzefield. As a Textile tutor, your primary responsibility will be to support learners to increase their Textile and employability skills and pass a recognised textile qualification. You will also plan, create, develop, and sell a range of products under the prison brand, using upcycled fabrics and resources. You will deliver and develop accredited and non-accredited courses to increase prisoner employability and reduce re-offending. To thrive in this role you may have a background in teaching and assessment in textiles, arts and crafts, product design, development and/or business.Working in a prison might not be what you imagine. You will find the residents in general have a positive attitude to learning which in turn creates a nice teaching atmosphere.You will be part of a thriving department that is the heart of HMP & YOI Bronzefield, and will work alongside a team of creative and innovative teachers who encourage and empower our residents to take responsibility for their learning. With significantly smaller class sizes, typically ranging from 6 to 12 students, our tutors can adopt a learner-centric approach, customising teaching methods to cater to individual needs. Additionally, the requirement for learner files to remain on-site and the inclusion of dedicated preparation and marking time means no home marking and better work life balance. This allows our tutors to focus their energy on in-class instruction and student support.This is both a challenging and rewarding role, where you directly impact the future of our prisoners, by equipping them with the tools they need to incorporate stability in their lives upon release. Main ResponsibilitiesWork effectively and efficiently with the Curriculum Lead and Education Manager to produce innovative and stimulating lessons for prisoners to encourage participation whatever level the prisoners are starting fromEffectively plan courses and lessons by preparing and using schemes of work and lesson plans for all classes for the benefit of the learner as for evidence at inspection/lesson observationsTo ensure all relevant policies and procedures, such as Security, Health and Safety and Prisoner Welfare, are adhered to and take responsibility of the work areaIdentify the needs of individuals in classes and groups and develop differentiate teaching methods and resources accordinglyEstablish a rapport with prisoners to encourage them to take their first steps in learning and achieve a recognised qualification.Monitor quality control of the Business enterprise work that is produced by prisoners to maintain standards required The Ideal CandidateEssentialFull teaching qualification (Minimum of CTLLS) or PGCE or working towardsExperience of delivering Textiles in the classroom. Recognised Level 3 qualification or above in an identified subject and professional experience.To have an interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders.To have an ability to always communicate effectively through different mediums, including spoken and written communication.DesirableExperience of instructing/supporting people with challenging behaviourAssessor or IV qualification is desirable.  Experience in a prison environment Package Description16 hours per week£13,382.52 - £15,441.42 + LW (£132.60 per month) You will also receive an array of other excellent company benefits, such as free meals, free parking, use of on-site gym and fitness classes, BlueLight card, group discount schemes, life assurance, pension and much more!
