FTE: 1 fte (working 37 hours per week) Duration of Contract: 12 months Fixed Term Contract (ending 31 March 2025) Salary: UH5 £27,181pa with potential to progress to £30,487pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year Location: MacLaurin Building, Hatfield Main duties and responsibilities The Payroll Officer must take a lead role in delivering the timely and accurate payroll processing duties for the weekly pay groups within the University of Hertfordshire Group, and to build and maintain excellent relationships with internal customers and other stakeholders connected to the weekly paid pay groups to ensure best standards of service. The Payroll Officer will also participate in the payroll duties for the various monthly paid pay groups within the University of Hertfordshire and provide an efficient and effective payroll service ensuring compliance with statutory and legal requirements, generating and transmitting RTI FPS files to HMRC on a weekly basis. Manual calculations of Statutory and Occupational Maternity and KIT Day payments, Statutory and Occupational Sick Pay and entitlements are a required as part of this post, along with the monitoring of long-term sickness absence and liaison with the relevant HR teams when sick pay (Occupational or Statutory Sick Pay) is approaching its end. Skills and experience required The successful candidate will require experience of working within a team and have experience of working to deadlines in a methodical and timely manner. The candidate must have the ability to priorities workload and tasks allocated to them. You will need to demonstrate experience and understanding of working within a Payroll/HR environment, with an emphasis on procedure compliance and HMRC regulations. We have numerous pay groups being processed during each monthly payroll cycle, being able to plan workloads effectively and work within strict deadlines are a necessity. You will need to demonstrate good attention to detail and ability manage conflicting priorities, and due to the sensitive nature of the data being handled, you need to be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality. The HR System currently in use is provided by The Access Group, experience of using the current HR System (Payroll modules or HR modules) would be an advantage. Qualifications required Minimum of A-levels or equivalent, or proven experience is required, as well as CIPP payroll technician certificate or proven equivalent experience.
