Role: Playworker
Reports to: Behavioural Consultant, CEO
Purpose of the role: Provide preschool-age children with additional support needs with 1-1 play sessions.
Commitment and requirements:
- Six sessions per week, specific days/hours as per parents' request and availability during April & August school holidays, including Saturdays.
- Parents need to be present when working with children with low-level behavioural issues should moderately challenging issues arise.
Temporary contract: Salary £21 per session in line with secured funding & parent's contribution during the April and August school holidays, including Saturdays.
Training & 2-month trial period: We require the ideal candidate to be able to join sessions with our clients in Cupar during April to become familiar with the role and children.
Leave entitlement: 25 days of annual leave plus ten statutory holidays (pro rata), closure days, and blood giving.
General & Key Responsibilities:
Early Intervention Support and Positive Behavioural Support for children with additional support needs and their families.
- Initial discussion with parents/risk assessments
- Session preparation based on the child’s interests
- Data collection, Notes
- 1-1 Sessions with children (and parents)
- Working independently
- Centre tidy up
- Any other relevant activities that ensure health & safety, child protection and successful running of this project and Nurture Steps
Requirements for this Role:

- Great communication skills with families and team
About you
- Previous work with preschool-aged children and children with ASN is preferable.
- Qualification in or towards childcare or psychology degree
- Fun, playful, energetic, open-minded, creative when playing with children
- Shares the values, vision and mission of Nurture Steps
- Experience and/or understanding of disabilities relevant to the organisation
- Respectful, encouraging and supportive
- Excellent communication skills
- Enthusiastic, has an eye for detail
- Organised, self-motivated and enjoys the creation of content
- Driven by the charities’ intentions and ethos
- Close to or in Cupar to be able to work at the centre
Support
You will be given full support from a Supervisor with one scheduled meeting per week and extra meetings should there be the implementation of new strategies or moderate behavioural challenges.
Training
You will be required to undertake the following training, which will be added to your CPD portfolio.
- Child protection training and ongoing reviews
- Paediatric First Aid training
- Positive Behaviour Support
- Self-study and certified CPD training
