You may be aware that in November 2023, Nottingham City Council’s Chief Finance Officer issued a report under Section 114(3) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 because, in his professional opinion, the council wasn’t able to deliver a balanced budget which is a legal requirement. This does not mean, however, that the council is bankrupt or insolvent.
The financial implications of the Section 114 report have been balanced against the council’s statutory duties, particularly in relation to safeguarding and homelessness, and the funding of this permanent post has been approved by the council’s Spend Control Board.
