Principal Product Designer

This is a hybrid role with an expectation to be in either our London or Nuneaton office once a week.

About the role

As Principal Product Designer you will be our master of craft. You will define what great design means at H&B; how it works, what it looks like and how it feels. You will mentor and coach members of the design community to raise their craft and meet your standards. You will discover, pitch and drive transformative projects leveraging design thinking, leadership and stakeholder management. Your overarching mission will be to deliver indispensable product experiences to the highest standards of craft that overserve H&B customers and end users' needs in a meaningful way. In other words, you drive and create category leading products that make a real difference. To do this you will navigate ambiguity by anchoring to a well informed vision and strategy, defined by you, that ladders up to our strategic product goals. You are a hands on designer through and through, with an impeccable eye for detail and great design taste.

Your primary focus;

• Work across the H&B organisation to bring focus to key end user needs and opportunities.
• Drive the production and delivery of our design system across multiple product surfaces, both customer and internal colleague facing.
• Ensure the standards of product design are pushed and meet the latest industry, technology and design best practises. Work directly with our design, product management, engineering and research leads to sweat the details and drive outstanding product experiences.
• Identify and drive high level and high value design initiatives with partners from across the business.

You are an outcome thinker and leverage your curiosity to deeply understand a problem space, connecting with stakeholders and area experts as you go, to build a compelling view of the right problem/s to solve.

Develop solutions

You see design and ideation as a team sport and facilitate positive and energised environments for cross functional teams to create compelling solutions to be realised and validated at pace.

Elevate craft

You work across design and squads to make sure craft and execution are delivered at the highest standards without compromise.

Drive impact

You are motivated by both customer and commercial goals and understand how both design thinking and customer centricity can be objectively informed and measured.

Think strategically

You think longer term and plan accordingly. You work with the VP Design and Design Leadership to help inform and execute against the design strategy, and inform the Product Strategy.

Skills and experience

• Experienced in a senior individual contributor role.
• Comprehensive portfolio of category leading shipped products that have impacted both end user needs and commercial objectives
• Outstanding craft and product design skills
• Broad technical understanding of the areas you have worked; in other words, you can debate the detail with engineers.
• Experience uncovering a problem, executing a solution and seeing the results.
• Excellent written and verbal communication at all altitudes of a business - you are a capable story teller and people are highly engaged when you speak.
• Deep expertise in all manner of design thinking and methodologies.
