About the role:
The Principal Social Worker (PSW) is a leadership role, supporting and inspiring Social Workers to embed good practice and keep children at the forefront of our decision making.
The Court Team is a small, countywide team that supports children subject to care proceedings, from initial hearing to conclusion of proceedings. The PSW will hold a small caseload of complex cases and deputise for the Team Manager where necessary.

About you:
Be passionate, motivated and determined to build good relationships with children and families to produce the best possible outcomes for Powys children.
Have an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding and quality critical thinking skills to analyse complex situations and make informed decisions.
Evidence good quality assessment skills that keep children at the centre
Be a committed, creative and focussed person who wants the best for the children in Powys
Significant post qualifying experience including experience in care proceedings and Court work.
Experience of supporting other Social Workers and coaching/ mentoring staff
Good quality written and oral evidence skills for Court and report writing.
What you will do:
The PSW will carry a small caseload. Assess and manage risk in more complex cases, and support others to develop risk management skills.
Carry out agreed tasks to assist and deputise for the Team Manager, such as oversight of assessments and care plans.
Take the lead in professional development and reflective practice sessions within the team; covering areas of interest and need.
Show a commitment to providing a high standard of social work practice by meeting our statutory duties and following policy and procedures.
Inspire and motivate Social Workers in the team by demonstrating best practice and supporting the team.
