Job Summary:
A Production Line Operative at SIL is responsible for working as part of a small team in an injection moulding environment to manufacture and package office furniture components. Line operatives are a key part of the manufacturing process, being directly responsible for the quality of produced goods, efficiencies and housekeeping of work areas. The production line operative will be required to conduct various quality checks to ensure standards are met, whilst maintaining packaging, efficiency and housekeeping standards to ensure the flow of production manufacturing from the injection moulding machines is not disrupted.
Essentially line operatives are responsible for the upkeep of manufactured furniture components, and ensuring they match quality standards before packing away by means of visual and physical inspections, trimming if required and correct packaging specification.
Responsibilities
- Inspect product to match standards of quality criteria
- Manual handling
- Flash trimming, visual checks etc.
- 12 hour shift work, nights or days (sometimes required to swap)
- Complete weight SPC checks every hour
- Package products to the required packaging specification and standard.
- Occasional use of some basic lifting equipment, i.e. pallet trucks to help work processes.
- Use of some powered equipment i.e. milling machines/pillar drills to help quality criteria standards to be met.
- Maintaining housekeeping standards.
- Respecting company policy and behaviour in work areas.
- Respecting all staff and colleagues within the work area.
- Ensuring PPE provided is utilised correctly and not mis-used.
- Ability to work individually but also together in small teams or pairs.
- Learning basic machine errors to notify a superior to rectify before work disruption.
- Notifying supervisors of any issues, quality or otherwise.
- Being vigilant to anything outside the normal manufacturing process.
- Ensuring scrap is monitored and recorded.
- Flexibility, there may be times (rare) other jobs are required, for example warehouse duties in the absence of a staff member if necessary.
Physical Demands & Risks
- Lifting products of up to 3kg in order to package in boxes or on stillages.
- Lifting boxes (up to 15-20kg maximum).
- Will be required to sit/stand for long periods.
- Occasionally moving pallets and finished goods via pump truck.
- May engage in frequent lifting, squatting, pushing, pulling in order to complete the job effectively.
- Repetitive actions through the day.
Job requirements

- Ability to learn new skills, all staff will be required to pass in-house training.

Job Type: full-time, Permanent/Contract
SALARY - pay for any packers starting is the national living wage for their age which is then reviewed once trained and finished probation. Pay is subject to experience and capability. Night shift get an additional £10 per shift.
HOURS - 48 hours per week inclusive of a 60 minute break per 12 hour shift. (44 hour working week)
SHIFTS - as above - there is opportunity for overtime.
