A prestigious education provider based in Guildford, Surrey is looking for a seasoned Purchase Ledger Clerk to take ownership of their accounts payable function. In addition to ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Purchase Ledger for multiple group entities, you will have the opportunity to support with payroll, credit control and even get involved in month end.
The finance team is under new leadership, and their recently appointed Head of Finance (placed by CMA) has identified the need to cross-train staff to ensure coverage during holidays and sickness, plus keep them engaged and motivated by introducing a greater degree of variety into their day to day.

What will the Purchase Ledger Clerk role involve?
- Overall responsibility for Group accounts payable function, including invoice processing, analysis/resolution of 3-way match failures, supplier statement reconciliations, payment runs, month end sub-ledger account reconciliations and weekly reporting.
- Investigation and resolution of historical discrepancies, e.g. invoices posted to the wrong group entity.
- Identifying and spearheading improvements and efficiency gains within Purchase Ledger and the wider finance operation.
- Cross-training / supporting with payroll, credit control and month end.
Suitable Candidate for the Purchase Ledger Clerk vacancy:
- Significant experience within an end-to-end Purchase Ledger / accounts payable role.
- Exposure to other areas of accounting such as payroll, credit control and month end would be beneficial.
- Team player with a collaborative, can do attitude, willingness to adapt and desire to learn new tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- AAT studier/qualified and/or degree in Accountancy & Finance (desirable).
