About The Role

Swansea University is seeking to appoint a fixed term Research Assistant within the Faculty of Science and Engineering MACH1 laboratories on the final stages of the Prosperity partnership in Rapid Product Prototyping. The successful applicant will join a team of industry focussed academics, researchers, technologists, and industrial experts, who collectively have been working on transformative metallurgical methods of rapid alloy prototyping to create new steels for the UK steel industry, as a global leader in low carbon iron and steelmaking, with specialisms in novel materials development, late-stage product diversification, value adding coatings technology and novel construction materials used in active building facades.
This role will encompass research activities related to the physical metallurgy of steels using advanced microscopy and analysis to support alloy design in assessing the links between microstructure and mechanical and physical (magnetic/electric/thermal) properties of prototype steels.
