A BBSRC-funded Research Fellow position is available within the research group of Dr Cathy Slack to study how FOXO transcriptional complexes coordinate metabolic changes during ageing in Drosophila. The project is highly interdisciplinary and will utilise a combination of Drosophila genetics, in vivo confocal microscopy, and proteomics, with a particular focus on identifying novel FOXO protein-protein interactions.
The successful applicant will join the laboratory of Dr Cathy Slack within the School of Life Sciences (SLS) which is located within the vibrant research community on Gibbet Hill Campus alongside Warwick Medical School (WMS). SLS offers a world-class, multidisciplinary research environment with a large and thriving community of internationally renowned researchers. Research strengths within SLS cover a broad portfolio of cell and developmental biology, supported by cutting-edge computational and experimental facilities, including genomics, proteomics, biomedical services, and imaging. SLS also delivers excellent quality teaching using a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods. Research Fellows within SLS are actively encouraged and supported to develop their broader academic profile by contributing to teaching at all levels through small group tutorials, practical sessions, and lectures.
The post is funded by a BBSRC Responsive Mode Award to investigate the mechanisms by which FOXO transcription factors coordinate gene expression with changes in the metabolic landscape, particularly during ageing. Our group aims to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms that drive organismal ageing using Drosophila as a model system. You will join an international and well-resourced team of researchers with the opportunity to form interdisciplinary collaborations and to present at international meetings and conferences.
For informal enquiries and/or more details about the project, please contact: cathy.slack@warwick.ac.uk
You will have an excellent first degree in a relevant subject area (biochemistry, biological sciences, or similar), and have, or expect shortly to complete, a PhD. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Molecular/Cell/Developmental Biology, with experience in molecular biology techniques (PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning, protein expression) and imaging of cells/tissues in vivo or in cell culture.Previous experience working with a model organism (particularly Drosophila) is preferred, but not essential. A good knowledge of proteomics and/or protein-protein interaction techniques is highly desirable. Experience of working on an interdisciplinary scientific project is desirable, strong scientific interest and ability to work autonomously are essential.
If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure.
