Research Fellow in Education
Fixed Term Contract until 31 January 2026
Part time - 29.6 hours per week
About the Role
The Equity in Doctoral Education through Partnership and Innovation (EDEPI) project is one of 13 Research England and Office for Students funded projects, created to tackle persistent inequalities that create barriers to access and participation in doctoral education for racially minoritised groups.
The EDEPI project is divided into three distinct work packages targeting recruitment, admissions and transition as critical points of systemic inequality, through sector-leading initiatives delivered at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). EDEPI has already recruited 12 NHS staff from racially-minoritised groups onto part-time PhD programmes in healthcare, published a report which maps current PGR admissions practices at UK universities - highlighting potential barriers and providing key recommendations for individuals and institutions to improve practice – and a draft Competency-Based PGR Admissions Framework and Question Bank. More than 100 supervisors and PGR have participated in workshops and group coaching activities. The project is now at the half-way point, with just under two years to go. Evaluation of the effectiveness of the EDEPI project initiatives and dissemination of high-quality research findings, is an important priority to ensure that the project provides an evidence base for what works which can help shape future activity and investment.
In the Research Associate role you will contribute to the development of research outputs, based on evaluation activity within the EDEPI project; including designing qualitative and quantitative research methods such as: surveys, semi-structured interviews, overseeing ethnographic diary accounts as well as carrying out interviews, transcribing and coding data and working within the team to undertake analysis and write up findings. You will also take responsibility for disseminating findings to appropriate groups.

Interviews: week commencing 29th April 2024/6th May 2024.
