CAHSS / Edinburgh College of Art / Research, Knowledge Exchange and Innovation

Full-time (35 hours per week )

Open-ended: permanent

Edinburgh College of Art is recruiting for a full-time Research Officer on a permanent basis. This post would suit those looking to further a career in research administration by leading School support in a variety of areas. Applications from those with experience of working in a similar or supporting role for application development, post award support, REF and KEI are particularly welcome.

The Opportunity:

Successful candidate will provide specialised advice and guidance to academic colleagues with regards to developing research projects. Offering both high level analytical guidance, including conducting analysis to resolve problems and putting forward recommendations for managing complex grants, and practical administrative support for a cradle-to-grave service for a defined portfolio of research proposals and grants.

The post-holder will be expected to provide timely, accurate and up-to-date research management information and work closely with the Head of RKEI and the Research Director to develop and manage procedures and policies relating to research activities to maximise service quality, efficiency and effectiveness. The post-holder will also line-manage research project staff supporting their performance management and development and will provide administrative support for the co-ordination of arrangements for the Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Either HNC/HND or equivalent level qualifications plus a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience or Broad experience (typically a minimum of 5 years), acquired through a combination of job related training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles
  • Previous experience of supporting and developing research grant applications, post-award administration and budget management/monitoring
  • Proven high-quality communication, liaison, presentation and relationship-building skills, with evidence of the ability to persuade and negotiate.
  • Highly developed time-management and organisational skills, with an experience of dealing with conflicting demands and prioritising workload in a fast-paced environment. Ability to sustain a high level of performance under pressure.
  • Ability to construct written presentations, gather and analyse information and report on it accurately.
  • Line management or supervisory experience.
