This is a full-time, temporary contract role that will begin 01/02/2024 and run to 30/04/2026. The Transportation and Infrastructure Research Group is looking for an individual to lead research and development activities as part of the GreenLog Horizon Europe EU-funded project. The GreenLog (Cooperative and Interconnected Green delivery solutions towards an era of optimized zero emission last-mile Logistics) project will develop an innovative simulation environment for scenario building combining different solutions that allow the integration of last-mile delivery interventions with the highest possible impact on environmental sustainability and traffic reduction, while considering their financial viability. On the operational level, GreenLog provides cargo-bike based innovations for sustainable micro-consolidation design and deployments, multimodal parcel deliveries integrating public transportation, Logistic as a Service platforms for interconnected city logistics and automated delivery concepts with the use of autonomous vehicles and delivery droids. The solutions are supported by interconnected city logistics dataspaces that feed dynamic services for proactive optimization of the ecosystem, respecting the interests of consumers, businesses and city stakeholders. The Opportunity: You will have the opportunity to work on an exciting multidisciplinary project funded as part of the Horizon Europe programme. You will be responsible for the development of innovative solutions that will enable the improvement of urban logistics services. The developed solutions will be deployed and tested in 5 pilot demonstration sites across different European countries. Your skills and attributes for success: Evidence of leading substantial parts of collaborative research projects within host and external Higher Education Institutions and/or public/private sector. Technical knowledge, or willingness to develop expertise in urban transportation/logistics systems, transport modelling and simulation tools, machine learning and data analytics for transport applications. Experience in programming and development of fully functional software systems running in operational environments. Experience of contribution to the securing of funding for research projects from external sources. Evidence of dissemination of research results through a developing portfolio of publications in high impact peer reviewed research journals, or equivalent, relevant to the field and presentation at national and international conferences.
