NAVY - Diving & Threat Exploitation Group Defence Transport Manager (HEO)

DTXG's Mission statement is "To provide dedicated and motivated Clearance Divers, armed with world class diving and EOD capabilities, to defeat complex Explosive Ordnance threats and deliver in-water maintenance & repair in peace and war." The role of Defence Transport Manager is a key enabler in DTXG achieving these outputs.

This position is located within the Diving & Threat Exploitation Group (DTXG) Headquarters based on Portsmouth's Horsea Island. We are an inclusive and dedicated organisation, offering an excellent working environment for our personnel and want you to join us!

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a HEO Grade Defence Transport Manager to join our dynamic and professional team. The successful candidate will take on a key role as the head of our Motor Transport team, supporting in DTXG's delivery of key National Defence tasking across the UK and internationally.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Support DTXG's key operational outputs by:

  • Managing and overseeing a broad and highly specialised fleet of motor transport vehicles across all areas of operation as a key enabler of DTXG's direct support to ongoing Naval operations.
  • Ensuring all DTXG Motor Transport vehicles are operated in compliance with JSP 800 Defence Movements and Transport Policy and the Movements and Transport Safety Regulations (MTSR).
  • Providing First Party Assurance to DTXG Motor Transport Officer and Motor Transport Supervisors
  • Managing the DTXG transport budget and the vehicle training element of the DTXG training budget, to maintain the required levels of vehicle availability and driver SQEP to support all DTXG planned and contingent tasking.

Person specification

The successful candidate will require:

  • Good Knowledge of IT Systems, MS Word and Excel
  • The ability to communicate at all levels
  • Experience and understanding of Defence Motor Transport Regulations and the associated administrative systems such as JAMES, Clarity and MyDrive
  • Defence Transport Manager and Clarity Authorised Demanding Officer certified

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
