Job Description
The role performs a critical function in the finance team, leading the month-end, budgeting and forecasting cycles for the Grant Management Group in LGC. This an exciting time to join the finance team as the organisation undergoes a period of growth, change and diversification. Previous experience of working in a service-based business, with public sector clients, or with open-book accounting contracts would be an advantage.
Month-end Reporting
- Overall responsibility for the Grant Management Group month-end reporting cycle
- Becoming the finance team’s Subject Matter Expert for IFS (LGC’s ERP system)
- Main point of contact with Group Accounting teams and audit
- Review of revenue and operating expense postings
- Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Proactively identifying and resolving accounting issues
- Posting and oversight of more complex accounting transactions including review of payroll journals
- Supporting and guiding more junior team members in the matrix organisation
- Leading the provision of information for year-end audit processes and clearing audit queries
- Compliance with Group financial timetables and timely financial reporting
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Overall responsibility for the Grant Management Group budgeting and forecasting cycle
- Supporting the strategic planning cycle of the business
- Leading cost centre reviews with budget holders on a monthly basis
- Proactively tracking staff changes and recruitment and collaboration with HR
- Regularly managing financial information such as the creation of new cost centres and identifying errors in cost centre allocations
- Good business partnering: providing an appropriate mix of support and challenge to senior management
- Providing financial information for input into processes such as the annual insurance renewal
Commercial, Contractual and Performance Monitoring
- Preparation of schedules to support KPI reporting to customers
- Analysis to support commercial bids and ad-hoc requests from customers
Qualifications
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Advanced to expert-level Excel (including pivots, look-up functions, IF functions, and other logical functions)
- Good technical knowledge of revenue, cost and balance sheet accounting including accruals and deferrals
- Good knowledge of accounting systems
- High attention to detail with good organisational skills
- Strong communication skills across the organisational hierarchy, both verbally and in written format

NB: We offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, flexible working arrangements. This is an office-based, hybrid role with an expectation for all employees to attend our offices up to 4 days per week in the training period, and 1 day per week thereafter. Attendance requirements may increase subject to team requirements.
