About Us
akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide routes to safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). akt was founded in 1989. We are based in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol. We also work online through a Digital Service to offer support to young people outside of our four office regions. akt works with over 800 vulnerable young people a year to provide both face to face and online help.
Job Summary
Please note – we have one Senior Services Manager role that can be based at any akt regional office (Manchester, London, Bristol or Newcastle).
To provide management and leadership for the organisation’s direct service offer to young people ensuring our case work is effective, efficient and delivering best practise. This role will manage six departmental and regional Services Managers.
Main Responsibilities
- As day-to-day operational lead for akt’s services, oversee the effective delivery of our offer to young people nationally.
- Ensure data is collected to allow us to evidence the effectiveness of work ensuring we are capturing the data we need on our CRM, and it is fit for purpose.
- Ensure data and case studies are collected to demonstrate the impact for a range of audiences.
- Lead on GDPR compliance within services and support akt broader to adhere to best practice.
- Lead on Health and Safety for Services ensuring we are supporting LGBTQ+ young people to access support safely and mitigating risk.
- Direct line management of the Regional Services Team Managers, Digital Services Manager and project work managers.
- To ensure that we are responding and evolving to learning, context and LGBTQ+ young people’s needs.
- To lead on the management of contracts and partnerships relating to our regional service delivery.
- To manage the budget for financial support of young people.
- To support managers to challenge poor practice we identify through individual case work and lead on collating trends and evidence, advocating for change in process and policy.
- To ensure the needs of LGBTQ+ young people are heard throughout akt and support Youth Engagement to amplify their voices internally and externally.
- Ensure akt is delivering best practice in case work and floating support and identify and lead towards akt getting external accreditation for our work.
- To undertake the role of deputy safeguarding lead nationally.
- In this national role, to undertake regular travel between akt’s bases and to other locations in developing akt’s national footprint.
