Sheltered Housing Officer

Job Introduction

Milton Keynes City Council's Sheltered Housing Service manages 25 schemes, and our large team of Sheltered Housing Officers do a really important job in supporting the 850 tenants within these schemes, as well as keeping buildings safe and secure.

We’re now seeking two part time Sheltered Housing Officers to help manage our schemes in New Bradwell and Bradwell.

You’ll need to be enthusiastic about working with older people, understand their needs and have a flexible, problem-solving approach. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Main Responsibility

• Visiting tenants daily, providing low level support and promoting ongoing independence.
• Completing independent living plans with tenants and making sure all electronic records are kept up to date.
• Encouraging activities within the scheme and chairing tenant’s meetings.
• Making sure the building conforms to health and safety standards and reporting all repair issues.
• Property viewings, housing suitability assessments and testing our community alarm equipment.
• Working closely with other agencies to promote safeguarding.​

The Ideal Candidate

• Enjoys talking to people and wants to help others.
• Confident in leading discussions and problem solving.
• Excellent IT skills and organised.
• Resilient with the ability to manage challenging situations.
• Confident working on their own.
• Flexible - you will need to provide cover in other schemes sometimes.
• For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.
• Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
