Site Engineer – Precast Segmental Viaducts ‘PSV’

Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway.. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.


We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Site Engineer within the Precast Segmental Viaducts ‘PSV’ Team

This role will be based on site in Water Orton, The project’s most complex network of structures in the West Midlands, this sublot includes the Delta Junction – a triangular section of the high-speed railway made up of nine precast segmental viaducts, embankments, and other bridging structures, with around 10km of track crossing a network of motorways, roads and rivers.

Precast Segmental Viaduct is a unique method never used in the UK and involves highly complex construction sequences with the use of bespoke plant design to erect precast viaducts.

The candidate will be part of the “compliance team”, in charge of ensuring the safe use of the machine on site and the strict compliance by the delivery team to the erection sequence and temporary works design.

The candidate will provide control of a multi-disciplinary team comprising, General Foremen, Lifting Operators including monitoring and reporting of progress, in close relation with Production staff


The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Site Engineer on Civil Engineering major construction projects.
  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately. Suggests and implements improvements to systems.
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity, including managing others in this regard.
  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights.
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
  • Excellent team player and team leader, able to work competently and autonomously without supervision. Reports back as necessary to update Line Management
  • Strong communication skills with track record of solution orientated approach to issue resolution.
