Position Summary

Plans and conducts independent work in the Civil & Structural discipline within the Infrastructure Global Business Unit requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

The candidate will also provide leadership in interfacing with various functional organizations (e.g., Project Controls, Construction, Procurement and Startup and Client stakeholders) and BIM Coordinators from the engineering disciplines in the developing/executing a BIM Execution Plan, Project Automation Plan and work processes to ensure successful design, construction and handover of the project. The candidate also ensures work processes are implemented and appropriate tools are installed, configured and tested in preparation for managing deliverables and related information. Such tools will be used to develop internal deliverables and/or coordinate external model deliverables with the client and subcontractors. The candidate will assess, manage and maintain the models and the common data environment (CDE). Additionally, the candidate will manage monitor and manage clash detection and interference checking for models

Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in the Civil & Structural Engineering discipline assigned to a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice associated with civil design activities but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
• Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and 3-D modeling tools (BIM).
• Plans, coordinates or prepares work specifications, technical bid evaluations and award recommendations for subcontracts or material requisitions.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals associated with civil site development.
• Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design associated with civil site development.
• Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders associated with civil site development
• Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers associated with civil site development.
• Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Job Knowledge

• Knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
• Advanced knowledge and experience using Civil3D, Revit - Template development, drawing production and quantification.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with Infraworks and related processes for managing and collaborating content within project shared/published CDE (BIM360/ ACC / Aconex) & GIS platform.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with model federation and aggregating from different authoring platforms (RVT, DWG, FBX, IFC, etc) into Navisworks/ Infraworks for visualizing, reviewing, BOQ and reporting
• Understanding of ISO 19650 Information Management Principles and Framework
• Understanding of the application of Engineering Department Procedures and relevant Bechtel design guides. Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
• Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the Civil Engineering discipline such as those developed by AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, Asphalt Institute, PCA etc .
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Qualifications and Skills

Desirable

• A recognized Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university, with 10+ years relevant experience.
• A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board.
• Experience in preparation and checking of civil design deliverables (concepts, drawings, calculations and quantities) for site layout, site drainage, rough grading, finish grading, rigid and flexible pavements, railroad crossings, storm water and sanitary systems, fencing, underground utilities services and soil retention and stabilization structures.
• Experience in supporting the tender process from conceptual design through to RFP, Bid evaluation, selection, negotiation, and execution.
• Experience with Infraworks and related processes for managing and collaborating content within project shared/published CDE (BIM360/ ACC / Aconex) & GIS platform.
• Experience with model federation and aggregating from different authoring platforms (RVT, DWG, FBX, IFC, etc) into Navisworks/ Infraworks for visualizing, reviewing, BOQ and reporting

Essential

• Experience in creating AR/VR models for client presentation, value engineering and optioneering.
• Experience with creating 4D using Synchro/Synchro Field & Control
• Integration with GIS and using GeoBIM
• Experience with Quantm for alignment optimization
• Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC) for mass-haul optimization
• Experience with modeling practices to support machine control
