Job description

Key Duties
  • Manage the operation of the School’s Student Experience, engagement and survey activities, planning organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required.
  • Work closely with the Director and Co-Directors of Teaching and Learning to ensure that the service provision is delivered to the school, proactively changing the delivery according to the needs of staff and the changing external environment.
  • Work with the Teaching and Learning Team Leader and academic colleagues to manage the School’s procedures for Student Experience and Engagement activities, including student surveys, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on student engagement, support and surveys to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
  • Take the lead on the development, planning, delivery and management of the School’s Student Experience and Engagement activity through self-management of your own workload and the workloads of others, in order to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the School’s support services.
  • Through collaboration with colleagues based in academic schools & other professional services, to plan and agree the School’s engagement with central services, ensuring alignment with both the University and School’s objectives.
  • Ensure that the University and School procedures for surveying students are effectively delivered. Raising awareness of the surveys, analysing results and advising staff and students.
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues within current student and student survey data sets, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within data capture and reporting software.
  • Develop and provide management information data and data analysis, with a focus on Student Experience and Engagement data. Analyse the data sets to establish trends and create forecasts. Present the analysis in a variety of formats and engage in decision making processes based on the data.
  • Work with colleagues in the College and central teams to develop and deliver a range of communication activities with our students with the aim of gathering feedback, developing action plans and improving student engagement and experience.
  • Act as secretary to and member of the Student Experience Sub-Committee and other relevant groups, providing high level data analysis, planning and procedural support to the Chair in overseeing and monitoring the development and implementation of School and University policies.
  • Develop high level and detailed knowledge of University procedures in relation to programmes of study, admissions, assessment, student support, extenuating circumstances and discipline.
  • Manage support to students with specific needs, ensuring that, where relevant, reasonable adjustments or other support is in place.
  • Manage the development, planning, delivery and review of Student Experience and Engagement activities, including but not limited to the student representative system, student cases and support procedures. Work with colleagues in the college, central teams and across the school in delivering services.
  • Lead on the provision of relevant administrative support in the development and delivery of action plans arising out of student surveys.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria
  • Degree/NVQ 6 or equivalent Professional membership/experience.
  • Substantial experience of working within student administration with demonstrable professional knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret, manipulate and present conceptually detailed and complex data.
  • Ability to lead and inspire small teams on projects, set up standard office systems and procedures and make improvements as appropriate.
  • Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally to a wide range of people, including staff, students and prospective students.
  • Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
  • Evidence of ability to develop successful events and solutions to problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes.
  • Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within Student Experience and Engagement.
  • Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress.
  • A willingness to undertake further training and development

Additional Information

Job Description cont.
  • Develop and deliver training to academic and professional services staff in the School on student surveys, engagement and support. Instruct and guide other employees across the University where needed.
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
  • Recruit, induct, manage and train the Student representatives for each course. Where needed for Student Experience and Engagement activities, recruit, induct, manage and train student helpers or volunteers.
  • Manage budgets for Student Experience and Engagement activities, following university procedures.
  • Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives, such as meetings with students, development of action plans etc.
  • Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures.

  • Develop networks across the School, College and University to ensure the success of the team’s objectives and long term plans.
  • Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to the role and which will enhance performance.
