About the University of Sunderland
The University of Sunderland offers life-changing opportunities for 27,500 students across its campuses in Sunderland, London, Hong Kong, and through global partnerships with learning institutions in 19 countries. We're proud to be a top 50 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2024), with top-quality facilities, inclusive culture, and our vibrant, ever-changing city.
International Student Support (ISS) is a key part of the wider Student Journey service, dedicated to enhancing the student experience and ensuring students get the most out of their time at the University of Sunderland.
About the role
ISS provide expert advice and guidance across a range of issues and processes affecting the university's international student population. The International Student Welfare Adviser role will work proactively and collaboratively to resolve emerging issues and put interventions in place where appropriate. Areas of focus include supporting student welfare, accommodation issues, managing money, cultural adaptation and accessing healthcare in the UK. As part of this varied and exciting remit, there is a requirement to identify risk and signpost into other professional support services via established referral mechanisms when required.
The role will work with partners both internal and external to the university, creating and developing relationships which support the student experience, including membership to committees and working groups involved in student welfare. Therefore, the role works flexibly across our Sunderland campuses and in the city to fulfil these needs.
What you can bring
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about student experience and can demonstrate resilience when working across a complex caseload. Communication and relationship development skills are integral to the success of the role, working with key partners in the city involved in the support and care of our students.
The role requires regular student contact and the delivery of information to large audiences throughout the academic year, including being an active contributor to induction activities. Therefore, strong content creation and presentation skills are crucial.
