You will be working with an older lady who sustained a brain injury in a road traffic accident a number of years ago.
S lives alone in her own home in Barnsley and requires support in domestic, community and leisure activity settings. She is fully mobile, with balance difficulties and is at risk of falls. She is a moderate smoker and does smoke in her home.
S has difficulties with cognitive skills such as memory, planning and problem solving. She suffers from low self esteem, anxiety and a depressive illness with features of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She can be challenging to work with. She prefers a quiet lifestyle with set routines, such as a walk into town for coffee most mornings or listening to music.
S spends a significant amount of time with a close friend C, who is an important member of her support structure. S also has a brain injury case manager who provides support to S, her family and the staff team. S also has a neuropsychologist and a consultant psychiatrist.
The successful candidate will provide bank cover for holidays, training and sickness for a rota covering shifts 0930 – 1600hrs and 1800 – 2200hrs Monday to Friday (Tuesday is 0930 - 1500 and 1500 - 2200). There are also some hours each week to support the client 2:1 in the community plus occasional weekend hours to support the client while she spends time with her friend. You will also occasionally be required to cover additional hours outside of these times when S’s friend C is unable to provide support due to holiday or sickness. This may include sleep in shifts. Flexibility is a key component of this role.
You would be working as part of a team of 3 Support Workers, the other two are already established with the client.
