The Opportunity


Salary:
NJC Grade 12 £45,441 - £48,474 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Location: Bridge House Worthing, with hybrid working

Our Pupil Entitlement team works collaboratively to keep all children in West Sussex safe and secure. We celebrate diversity and ensure that we are inclusive and supportive to all children, young people, and families.

We are seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead the South Non-Attendance Investigation team and FPN team within Pupil Entitlement: Investigations.

You will encourage children to access the education they are entitled to, ensuring parents fulfil their legal responsibility, providing high quality advice and guidance to professionals, schools, and other education settings.

You will ensure staff within your team operate and deliver intervention within a legal framework.

You will work alongside and liaise with professionals from Social Care, Early Help, Youth Justice, the Special Education Needs Assessment Team (SENAT), Schools, other Local Authorities, Health, Police, and other professional bodies.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Professionally leading and managing your team.
  • Developing training events and bespoke frameworks.
  • Remaining up to date on legislation, procedures, policies, and best practice.
  • Chairing and participating in external forums,
  • Chairing and participating in Legal Panel Meetings.
  • Reviewing existing procedures and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Overseeing income generated from Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs).
  • Using and collating data to support analysis and evaluation of service provision.
  • Understanding safeguarding and confidentiality in all areas of your work.

We are looking for someone who can work to tight deadlines and manage the varied demands of the role, whilst being able to focus for lengthy periods. You will be leading a team, including mentoring, and supporting development.

There is a significant emotional demand due to the nature of this role, where emotional resilience is key.

Please note:

  • You will need to be able to travel independently to various meeting venues, schools, family homes, places of child employment and entertainment and other locations across the County, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport.
  • In addition, travel will be necessary to monitor the performance of the team and its members through direct observation of working practice and the delivery of supervision.
  • There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.

Our Pupil Entitlement: Investigation team are dedicated to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people, progressively engaging with schools, children, and their families.

The team consists of five sub teams: Children in Entertainment and Employment, Children Missing Education, Non-Attendance Investigation, Fixed Penalty Notice and Elective Home Education. These teams ensure children of compulsory school age are in receipt of a suitable education.
