Job description

This post provides an opportunity to gain experience both in Strokeand Neurology, as well as aspects of general medicine, elderly care, vascular surgery, neuroradiology and neurosurgery. There are also opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in teaching and training, both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level, to contribute to clinical hyper-acute and acute stroke research, clinical governance and clinical improvement work. Self directed training time is included in the rota for this post, and the doctor will also be invited to join the education programme within the department. 2. DUTIES OF THE POST The post holder will work alongside the team of consultants, other junior medical staff, Physician associates, advanced nurse practitioner the multidisciplinary team and research faculty. Examples of duties include: Participating in the day-to-day functioning of stroke and Neurology, including Consultant ward rounds, reviews of patients and clinical ward tasks Participating in the on-call Rota as described. Promoting high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development relevant to scope of practice. Promoting high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the critical care environment Benefitting from the departmental education program and opportunities as described The duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and will the post holder will be expected to undertake experience across the whole pathway. 3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Please see Person Specification - additionally: This post is suitable for: Doctors in training who have completed a minimum of Foundation year 2 and are fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice in the UK. 3.1 General Training and Qualifications See Person Specification. 3.2 Experience See Person Specification. 3.3 Personal Attributes The appointee will have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communications about medical topics with patients and colleagues. See Person Specification. 3.4 Clinical Audit and Quality Improvement The appointee will be encouraged to contribute to the trust audit programme and there will be the opportunity to develop their own audit or quality improvement topics should this be of interest. In the discharge of these responsibilities the appointee will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education. 4. TEACHING The Trust as a Teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds School of Medicine for the Undergraduate teaching and both the Stroke and Neurology departments host undergraduate students on rotational placements. There are opportunities available for the post holder to be involved in teaching and training both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. 5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS 5.1 Accountability The postholder is managerially accountable for the use of resources to the managing consultant and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer through Clinical Directors. This may be amended in the light of the Trusts management arrangements. 5.2 Standards of Conduct and Behaviour You are required to work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical Practice. This includes protecting patients when you believe that a doctors or other colleagues conduct, performance or health is a threat to them. If, after establishing the facts, it is necessary, you must follow the Trusts procedures in this matter and inform your Clinical Lead, Clinical Director or Medical Director in the first instance. Your general conduct at work should comply with the standards set out in the Trusts document on Appraisal, in particular the section on Core Behaviours 6.
