Youth Justice Education Officer

New Role within the Youth Justice Team in Sheffield City Council

I am now looking to recruit to a long-term role for Sheffield city council till the end of March at least.

This is for a YJS Education Office - £19.07 an Hour 

What are the main responsibilities of the role?

(e.g., What does the day to day look like, are there any specific projects they’ll be working on, how does it fit within the team etc)

· Hold a case load of low medium to high/ very high though out the Youth Justice service

· They would carry out the checks for the case manager doing the assessment and would carry out any actions

· The case manager will look at this then decide what actions to take

· Would be looking at low attendance or no attendance to schools and would assess on a case-by-case basis/ those on low Aps, also have children that can be placed, and children have EHCPs and who a too risky to be placed and looking and being placed via SEND

· Also work with YP coming out of custody and looking at helping to get them employment

· Working with people who are going in custody and looking and planning on courses that they can do etc for when they are out

· Children on the most intense packages are needing 15 hours of ETE

· Do home/ lone visit – seeing them ins schools or home or secure units

· A lot of work done in the community

· Expectations to be in the office and attend a lot of professional/ sensitive meetings

· In the office full time at the beginning of the placement for key introductions – 40% in the office is the expectation, expect the office days be in the office and work around seeing the YP in and where they need to be

· Flexi time - core hours 9-pm but may need to go out on visits outside this time

· Monday – Friday

· Working with YP 10+ upwards

· Looking at 40 – 50 cases each depending on where the cases are at e.g. if they are in custody for 2 years would just be monitoring

Key Skills (e.g., What’s essential and is there any flexibility on certain skills? Desirable Vs Essential Vs Transferable)

· Needing someone who can think outside the box

· Working with YPs who are difficult to place

· Can engage yp

· Time keeping

· Record keeping

· Safeguarding knowledge – when to escalate

· To be able to prioritise a case load

·

USPs (e.g., Team Size, parking, what does the manager love about the job)

· No 2 days are ever the same

· Have children who are disengaged from education and can take time and effort to re-engage them but the rewards you get from it and reengaging them

· Its very rewarding role

· Inspiring #Wokring alongside another ETE with 1 manager

· Could be out of city as well

· Working with various different departments

No requirements for a car but based on the high caseloads would be hard with out.
