Tax Technician

• Location: Glasgow (Potential to be hybrid following 2 weeks onsite training)
• Salary: £12.46 - £13.81 per hour + holiday pay

Reed Accountancy are seeking a diligent Accounts & Tax Assistant to join our client based in Glasgow City Centre. This 6 Week Temporary assignment is essential in assisting the Tax Analyst with maintaining accounting records and resolving queries related to import/export activities.

Day to Day of the role:

• Prepare and send customs clearance instructions to shipping agents, ensuring VAT relief is obtained where possible
• Liaise with academic departments for data and information required for Customs clearances
• Serve as the main point of contact for internal service users and import agents, efficiently managing the University’s Import mailbox
• Maintain accurate accounting records, including processing entries in the Import Log and reconciling with HMRC deferment statements weekly
• Work closely with various teams to ensure refunds from HMRC/shipping agents are correctly allocated
• Prepare and complete monthly deferment VAT and duty reallocation spreadsheets, uploading journals to Agresso
• Resolve enquiries and queries related to customs procedure codes, tariff classifications, duty rates, and documentation requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in an accounting team environment, providing excellent customer service
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with a range of stakeholders
• Attention to detail and a supportive team player
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of Agresso system is desirable
