About the Role
We require an enthusiastic Assistant Financial Accountant to play an important role within the friendly Financial Accounting team. The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of notes to the Financial Statements and will be a key contact liaising with the internal and external auditors. They will be responsible for the University’s capital reporting, including maintaining the asset register and physical verification of assets. They will prepare robust cashflow forecasts, assist with investing surplus funds and be responsible for submission of all authorized payment files (including bacs, foreign payments, urgent payments).
About You:
- You are a qualified accountant or are studying towards your accountancy qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent).
- You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You have previously prepared notes to the financial statements and have experience preparing complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- You have a thorough understanding of capital accounting requirements.
- You can explain technical accounting concepts to non-finance professionals in a clear and understandable manner.
- You have good interpersonal skills, developing effective working relationships with colleagues and key external contacts.
About the Department
The role is based in the Financial Accounting Team, part of the wider Finance Department of the Professional Services Directorate. The role is based in Whitechapel with the opportunity for hybrid working.

This post is offered with the opportunity for hybrid working and is based at Department W in Whitechapel, London. It is a full-time permanent appointment. The starting salary will be Grade 5, in the range of £42,405 - £49,785 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Please note it is QMUL policy that successful candidates are appointed at the start of the salary range of the advertised grade, with automatic annual progression to the next spine point thereafter, until the top of the grade is reached.
