What is the role about?
The Assistant Financial Accountant role is primarily responsible for supporting the Financial Reporting Accountants with the preparation of periodic analysis and general ledger entries to support the production of Reed in Partnership and Reed Wellbeing Limited’s limited accounts ensuring that the companies are able to satisfy their statutory reporting obligations in an accurate and timely manner.
The role will also provide support to the Financial Accountant by preparing accounting entries including, but not limited to, accruals, prepayments, and fixed assets. This role will also co-ordinate the periodic compilation and review of Reed in Partnership’s and Reed Wellbeing’s balance sheet
The role will be responsible for compiling and analysing financial information, carrying out timely Balance Sheet Reconciliations, and preparing reporting summaries, including detailed and trend analysis, intra-group control accounts and accurate statements of assets and liabilities in accordance with accounting policies. This will include assisting with the maintenance of the accruals and prepayments schedules, detailed Fixed Asset Register, VAT and Tax compliance.
Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include
- Supporting the allocation and monitoring of accruals and prepayments, liaising with supporting functions to ensure timely recognition of invoices.
- Supporting the maintenance of the company’s Fixed Asset register to ensure that all assets are correctly recorded and depreciated in accordance with the company’s Fixed Asset policy.
- Control of the intercompany accounting process including ensuring all invoices from Reed Group are authorised, processed, paid and coded in a timely and controlled manner and performing formal reconciliations of all intercompany accounts within the Reed Group, ensuring these are agreed on a periodic basis.
- Production of period end journals and reconciliations and other sundry period end routines
- Produce other designated balance sheet reconciliations on a periodic basis.
- Creation of the period end file and coordinate with Finance colleagues to ensure the completion of a full suite of balance sheet reconciliations for Reed in Partnership and Reed Wellbeing.
- Review and monitor key balance sheet reconciliations reporting key trends and identifying and reporting areas of both risk and opportunity in the company balance sheets.
- Production of daily cash flow reporting, ensuring it is accurately prepared and circulated to relevant members of the management team.
- Production of periodic financial control focused MI including information expenses policy violations, PO policy adherence and other ad-hoc MI as required.
- Year-end audit preparation including but not limited to production of audit schedules, liaising with the auditors, compiling audit evidence, and responding to queries in a timely fashion.
- Ensure that the company remains compliant with its key statutory reporting obligations by assisting the Financial Accountant and the Head of Financial Accounting.
- Hold responsibility for treasury functions, including delivery of cash allocations, journal postings and bank reconciliations, ensuring transactions are executed and recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitor and review the company’s control environment ensuring that the Companies remain compliant with its key policies and carrying out audit of processes where applicable.
As a key participant in the periodic reporting cycle for the business, this role requires the ability to carry out review and variance analysis and to contribute to meaningful and insightful commentary. You will also be expected to be able to follow a detailed framework and meet tight deadlines, whilst maintaining the ability to work under your own initiative and contribute ideas for improvement.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with
Essential Criteria
- AAT qualified or Accounting & Finance Degree equivalent qualification
- Demonstrable experience in a busy multi-site finance environment
- Good accounting systems knowledge, gained through in-depth exposure to systems such as Oracle or SAP
- Experience of reconciling general ledger balance sheet accounts
- Good Microsoft Excel and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to build robust working relationships with co-members in and outside of the Finance environment.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to deal with conflicting priorities and a number of tasks concurrently.
- The ability to grasp complex processes quickly.
- Proactive team player, with a flexible ‘can do’ attitude.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of fixed asset accounting and depreciation
- Exposure to intercompany accounting
- Ability to understand and produce complex reconciliations.
- Experience of business electronic banking and production of bank and cash reconciliations
- Experience of sales ledger invoicing and cash allocation
