The role

We’re recruiting a Content Designer for Prisons Digital, which is part of Justice Digital, to work on replacing the Home Detention Curfew product.

This role will be in our Manage Custody service area in Prisons Digital. The successful candidate will be part of a team delivering a service that enables some people to be released early from custody if they have an address that’s suitable to go to.

The work is to replace an existing legacy service and is split into 2 areas: assessing early releases and managing licence conditions for release. The goal is to ensure the right person is assessed and safely released at the right time under the right policy.

You will work collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary digital team and stakeholders from policy areas to produce straightforward journeys that meet user needs and business requirements. You will use the knowledge you gain of how users work and the policy they must comply with to develop a service that speeds up complex processes and helps prisons to run more efficiently.

  • This is 1 of 2 Content Designer roles we are advertising at the moment, and we are happy for people to apply for both (please note the different level of security clearance required for each role).

See the other role, working on a new Intelligence Management Service here: https://www.jobtrain.co.uk/justicedigital/Job/JobDetail?jobid=262

Person specification

As a Content Designer, you'll make things easier for users to understand and use. You'll be supported by a Senior Content Designer working on a related product in your area. And you’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop new user-centred design skills.

Essential criteria:

You’ll need to:

  • Create, improve and publish high quality, user-centred content
  • Make complex language and processes easy to understand
  • Use data, research and evidence to inform and explain content decisions
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and use an iterative and flexible approach to enable rapid delivery
  • Identify important stakeholders and communicate with them clearly and regularly
  • Understand the range of different users who might access content and services, and identify their needs based on evidence
  • Consistently and effectively apply content standards and style guidelines to your work
  • Understand government accessibility requirements and design content that works with common assistive technologies

You should be willing to be assessed for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.

We welcome the unique contribution diverse applicants bring and do not discriminate on the basis of culture, ethnicity, race, nationality or national origin, age, sex, gender identity or expression, religion or belief, disability status, sexual orientation, educational or social background or any other factor.

Our values are Purpose, Humanity, Openness and Together. Find out more about how we celebrate diversity and an inclusive culture in our workplace.

How to Apply

Candidates must submit CV and statement of suitability (max 500 words). Failure to provide both documents will result in a rejection of your application. Also, if the statement is too long, we won’t read past the first 500 words.

The statement of suitability should outline your experience, against the following points of the essential criteria list above, under ’Person Specification’

  • Create, improve and publish high quality, user-centred
  • Identify important stakeholders and communicate with them clearly and regularly
  • Use data, research and evidence to inform and explain content decisions

In Justice Digital, we recruit using a combination of the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework (previously know as Digital, Data and Technology, or DDaT) and Civil Service Success Profiles.

For this role, we’ll be looking at the Government Digital and Data skills for Content Designers and Success Profiles Behaviours for ‘Level 3 – HEO and SEO or equivalent’. We will assess your Experience and the following Technical Skills and Behaviours during the assessment process:

Government Digital and Data skills for Content Designers

  • User-centred content design
  • User focus (content design)
  • Stakeholder relationship management (content design)
  • Agile working (content design)

Civil Service Behaviours

  • Communicating and influencing
  • Working together
  • Changing and improving
  • Delivering at pace

Your application will be reviewed against the Person Specification above by a diverse panel.

Successful candidates who meet the required standard will then be invited to a

1-hour panel interview held via video conference. This will include a content design task and 4 interview questions, which will be sent to you in advance.

Should we receive a high volume of applications, a pre-sift based on your experience of ‘create, improve and publish high quality, user-centred content’ will be conducted prior to the sift.

If you’re unsuccessful in the role you apply for, but demonstrate the capability for the role at a lower level, we reserve the right to discuss this opportunity with you and potentially offer you a position without the need for a further application.

A reserve list may be held for a period of up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made.
