We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for an outstanding individual to join APF as the Director of Finance and Operations as we take the organisation through a significant period of development and growth.
Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis is an agile and energetic charity with a meaningful cause and clear plans for growth. This role will be responsible for the operational management of the Finance, HR, Facilities, and IT functions reporting to the CEO.
You’ll be able to set up systems that are compliant and based on best practice, helping us to better understand how our resources are allocated and ensure we are getting value for money. You’ll bring a culture of transparency and efficiency to the running of our office, so that are effective in everything that we do. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, critical thinking, flexible and solution focussed. You’ll have good people skills and able to explain financial information to people with little or no financial skills.
What you will do:
- As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), collaboratively drive the development and delivery of strategic plans and budgets aligned with APF’s vision, values and objectives.
- Create robust financial, HR and operational plans and policies, including risk management that enhance efficiency, collaboration and effectiveness across APF
- Empower and develop your team, fostering a cohesive culture and driving high levels of engagement and performance
- Proactively identify key risks and implement robust risk management practices, including financial, governance, digital, people, safety, and sustainability
- Cultivate an environment that values controls and compliance as essential competencies among stakeholders
What you will need:
- A relevant degree qualification or equivalent is essential along with evidence of continuing professional development.
- A relevant postgraduate professional qualification is desirable.
- Experience managing financial and operational resources within the public or charitable sector is desirable along with an understanding of charity commission regulatory requirements
- Experience of company secretarial role or providing support to trustee boards in a finance or governance capacity
- Experience of preparing financial statements in accordance with the Charity SORP
- Experienced in using financial information (management accounts) to aid decision making; able to present financial information to non-financial audiences and working with different teams who need financial data to help them in their roles
- Demonstrable experience in successfully developing and implementing financial and operational strategies in a fast growing environment is essential. Ideally where turnovers is between £2m & £7M.
- Experience of leading transformational change involving systems, projects and people is essential.
- Experience of effectively cultivating highly engaged and high performing teams that deliver organisational results is essential.
