Executive Head of Finance
Institute of Biomedical Science
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly skilled, qualified finance professional with experience of the charity sector to join the Institute of Biomedical Science in this key leadership role.
The Institute of Biomedical Science (the Institute) is the professional body for those working in biomedical science. We have 20,000 members, primarily in the UK, the majority of whom work in NHS laboratories, NHS Blood and Transplant, public health services, private laboratories, research, industry and higher education. The Institute is an education provider and standard setter, and we seek to ensure that the services we provide meet our members’ needs and support the acquisition of knowledge and skills for personal, professional and service needs.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of the Institute’s strategy and for the strategic development and management of the Institute’s finance function. You will provide advice to the Officers, Trustees and Chief Executive on financial and business risk issues. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Institute complies with regulatory and reporting requirements relevant to the Finance function.
As a key member of the senior management team you will innovate, motivate and communicate. You will understand our business and lead and support change to help deliver the Institute’s ambitions and objectives.
You will lead the finance department to ensure appropriate financial controls are in place and to deliver a high quality, timely accurate and reliable service, responsive to the needs of Trustees, staff and members.
You should have a demonstrable track record in these areas.
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with at least five years’ post qualification experience of managing both financial and management accounting functions. Experience in the charity/not-for-profit sector would be beneficial; while the ability to communicate effectively, work well under pressure and a supportive management style are essential.
If this is you and you are excited by the prospect of working for us then please submit your CV and a supporting statement outlining your suitability for the role and a brief description of what you would hope to achieve in your first year at the Institute to chiefexecutive@ibms.org before the closing date of 28 February 2024. Interviews are expected to take place mid March.
