The Role
As a Financial Accountant, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Sitting within the Babcock Central Accounting team, in the newly formed Finance Business Services department (FBS). The function includes inter company, balance sheet and fixed and lease asset accounting, journals and support to indirect taxes and will deliver common processes through process simplification, continuous improvement and the integration of systems.
Day to day, you'll be supporting the standardisation and optimisation of finance processes and controls across Babcock Finance, with particular focus on journal and Balance Sheet processes; all whilst deputising for the Finance Manager and supporting with coaching and development of other team members:
- Supporting the transition of remaining FBS activity into the team as we standardise scope across the FBS function.
- Supporting the transition of the remaining Babcock Sectors into SAP.
- Management of / compliance with detailed tasking month end timetable.
- Preparation of analysis required to support audit and statutory reporting.
This role is a full-time position that is contracted at 37.5 hours a week and can be based at either our: Bristol, Plymouth or Leicester sites with hybrid working from home arrangements.

Essential Experience of the Financial Accountant:
- Hands-on experience of working within a Finance function, ideally in a complex international business environment.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations, with the insight to challenge and review balance sheet recoverability.
- Demonstratable commercial awareness with a good understanding of the business environment including customers, competitors, etc.
- Extensive experience in the use of Microsoft Office 2010 suite of applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Outlook.
- Experience of Finance IT applications (e.g., SAP, Navision, IFS, BPC, TMS).
Qualifications for the Financial Accountant:
- You must hold a recognised professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS) or equivalent / similar.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
