We are now looking for a Head of Careers Consultancy to lead the Careers Consultancy Team in the delivery of highly effective, impactful careers education, information and guidance. A part of the management team, the Head of Careers Consultancy will bring knowledge and expertise to shape the strategic direction of the Careers and Employability Team and inform institutional strategies for delivering employability.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Leading the Careers Consultancy Team to success – setting ambitious team and individual objectives in line with wider Careers priorities, supporting and inspiring people to achieve them.
- Leading on the development of a centrally delivered suite of career development workshops, 1:1 support, online learning materials and projects, ensuring planning and delivery to the highest standard within the scope of available resources and reflecting best practice within the sector.
- Providing strategic leadership for School and department-based careers and employability provision, supporting Careers Consultants with the development and implementation of School and department level strategies.
- Overseeing a portfolio of key theme-based projects within the team, establishing clear objectives with lead Careers Consultants, agreeing evaluation and impact measures, monitoring progress and allocating resources. Examples of project themes include equality, diversity and inclusion; international, and digital.
- Horizon-scanning to identify new initiatives in the world of work and opportunities for enhancing existing services, or developing collaborative projects within and beyond the institution.
The ideal candidate will be:
- A strategic thinker, able to balance short-term priorities with a longer-term view;
- Skilled and experienced in motivating and managing teams of experienced professional staff;
- Forward-looking with the drive to innovate and refresh, able to adjust practice to deliver institutional priorities;
- A sophisticated communicator, both written and orally, who can influence and build relationships with a wide range of people at different levels of seniority.
- Able to demonstrate a proven record of delivering services/support and projects at scale against agreed outcomes;
- Confident in managing, analysing and interpreting data in order to inform service delivery and strategic decisions;
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of Careers and employability theories, and issues and trends in HE careers work, and experience of applying these to inform the design and delivery of services and projects.
