This is a lead role, providing financial information and reports to stakeholders and ensuring compliance with the Trust’s financial policies and procedures and the Academies Trust Handbook. The Head of Finance is responsible for managing a team of two staff and coordinating and controlling the accounting function in support of some 150 teaching and support staff.
The role involves supporting the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in providing strategic and financial advice to the Headteacher and Trustees in a timely and accurate manner.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, show initiative with excellent organisational skills and be able to communicate well at all levels and with key stakeholders.
Ket responsibilities of the role will include the following:
- To deliver a comprehensive finance service including the provision of financial advice and guidance.
- Lead and manage the Finance team, including overseeing day-to-day processes, communication, succession planning, recruitment, performance management and delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Provide proactive and business focused advice to senior leaders, which supports the Trust KPIs, strategic plans and reflect current legislation and guidance.
- To work with CFO to develop the 3-year budget plan and inputting information to budget software.
- To work with Deputy Headteacher and CFO in the development and implementation of Integrated Curriculum Financial Planning (ICFP) to ensure an affordable curriculum is maintained.
- To work with the CFO and Senior Leaders to ensure budgets are being controlled
- To oversee the financial management of school trips, ensuring all trips are financially viable and liaising the School Office Manager.
- To manage the Academy Trust’s bank accounts and investments including liaison with Lloyds as and when necessary.
- To prepare year-end forecast outturn positions.
- To provide accurate and timely monthly management accounts and financial information to CFO, Headteacher including review and monitoring for any potential favourable or adverse variances, and forecast outturn compared to budget.
- To meet with the CFO and Headteacher as required to discuss the financial reports and submit monthly to the Trustees.
- To produce reports for termly Trustee Committee meetings in association with the CFO
- Responsible for ensuring that Trust procurement procedures are adhered to for all orders and comply with our Financial Regulations.
- Ensuring that Best Value is obtained for orders and appropriate approvals are obtained prior to orders being raised.
- To work with and provide information for the CFO to improve procurement and contract management including maintaining the Contract Register and proactively working with senior leaders managing supplier/service contracts.
- Ensuring invoices are received, approved and processed accurately for payment.
- Ensure payments to suppliers are processed on a timely basis (BACs and cheques).
- Complete month end finance and payroll checks
- To be the main point of contact for audit visits, ensuring all required information is provided
