About Salford Lads and Girls Club
Salford Lads Club recently celebrated its 120th birthday. Its motto remains the same since its foundation: “To brighten young lives and make good citizens.”
With the ongoing challenges posed following the Covid-19 pandemic, rising energy prices and current cost-of-living challenges, the club is now an even more important place for local young people and the local community. The club also remains a unique site of cultural interest for national and international visitors to Salford and Greater Manchester.
We are at a pivotal point in our growth journey and are looking for a Head of Youth Operations to lead and develop our core youth work provision, as well as ensure that we continue our heritage and work with the local community.
The Role
There are two distinct parts to the role.
In your primary role, you are responsible for organising the activities, infrastructure and services related to young people attending Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club and its supporting volunteers. This includes safeguarding procedures and working with the Facilities and Building Manager to make sure risk assessments are completed and health and safety policies are in place and implemented. You will be responsible for managing all staff and volunteers involved in delivering youth services. You are also responsible for reviewing, developing, and expanding our offer on an ongoing basis, including help with funding to expand what we offer.
In your secondary role, you work collaboratively with the culture and heritage-focused staff team to make sure the club can continue its work in the community. It is often (though not always) the cultural aspect of the club’s offer that is channeled for funding opportunities, press and audience interest, and this aspect of the club’s offer provides significant funding for its continued youth provision. Neither aspect of the club’s work is more important than the other. The fact that both co-exist is what makes Salford Lads’ and Girls’ Club unique, and both must work together to make sure the club can continue its current offer for another 120 years and beyond.
About you
We are looking for someone who has a passion for and experience of working with young people. You will have at least two years' experience of working in a similar leadership/management role. A knowledge and experience of leading on safeguarding is a must as well as a good working knowledge of GDPR. We need someone in this role who has experience of leading and managing people with patience and high emotional intelligence who can quickly work out how to get things done in the right way. An ability to communicate well with a diverse range of people is essential, as is the capability to work independently with limited guidance and direction. We need someone who can make decisions, at times being comfortable to operate ‘in the grey’ as the club continues to develop its strategy.
