Job description

The role is designed to support Regulatory Reporting team in satisfying UK regulatory reporting requirements driven by FCA and PRA along with the opportunity to deliver process and internal control enhancements. The role involves aiding in the process of database management, data manipulation, validation of calculation cools, and automation of processes utilizing advanced technical skills in Python, SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools.


Key Responsibilities


Data Management:

  • Extracting and synthesizing data from various in-house and external databases to support departmental reporting and analysis.
  • Undertaking a thorough learning initiative to master the structure, nuances, and capabilities of existing databases, ensuring robust data support for regulatory processes.
  • Supporting creation, testing, and maintenance of a single trading/business data warehouse (for data used in regulatory reporting).
  • Supporting creation, testing, and maintenance of a separate regulatory reporting output database (to store regulatory reporting data and use it for data visualization).
  • Integrating SQL queries into Alteryx workflows, and Power Queries into Excel workflows, to automate the direct transfer of data to and from databases, streamlining the data management and reporting process.

Departmental Support:

  • Serving as a departmental resource for understanding and navigating the intricacies of database information, providing critical data support for a range of regulatory reporting tasks.
  • Collaborating closely with IT, Data, and Risk teams to streamline data extraction processes, facilitating efficient and accurate data delivery for ongoing and ad hoc analyses.
  • Quality assurance and independent validation of calculation tools and models used in regulatory reporting (including identifying discrepancies, areas for improvements, proposing actionable solutions to enhance reliability and efficiency of the tools, and documenting testing processes and validation results).
  • Assisting with production and delivering accurate and timely IFPR regulatory submissions for the firm (Own funds, Liquid assets, Concentration risk, additional monitoring metrics), including calculation, validation, analysis, and communication of findings.
  • Assisting with production and delivering accurate and timely COREP regulatory submissions for the firm (Liquidity, Capital, Market Risk, FX risk, Asset Encumbrance, Sovereign Exposures), including calculation, validation, analysis, and communication of findings.
  • Assisting with production other such specific reporting templates as required under any regulatory reporting requirements applicable to Winterflood Securities Limited or Close Brothers Group.
  • Assisting with production of ICARA document, making sure that reporting is aligned with business changes.
  • Managing regulatory reporting projects and report progress against project KPI.
  • Assisting in preparation of papers and underlying data analysis for MI (management information) and RCC (risk and compliance committee) papers, as appropriate.
  • Developing a deep and current understanding of the drivers of financial markets, new and current trends.
  • Building and maintaining a strong culture of compliance, risk management, integrity, client focus and other such Winterflood and Close Brothers values.

Oversight & Direction

  • Overseeing the accuracy and consistency of data flows within regulatory reporting pipelines, ensuring data integrity across all reporting platforms.
  • Monitoring the impact of regulatory changes on data requirements and adjusting data collection and reporting processes accordingly to maintain compliance.
  • Providing guidance on data-related issues and initiatives, establishing a clear line of data oversight for the department's regulatory reporting activities.
  • Updating and monitoring regulatory reporting documentation, procedures, assumptions, schedules, and issues log.

People

  • Acting as a liaison between the regulatory reporting team and other departments, emphasizing collaborative problem-solving and the importance of shared goals to encourage prompt and accurate data sharing.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely and efficient collection of data necessary for regulatory reporting.
  • Utilizing exceptional communication skills to facilitate clear and effective exchanges of information, ensuring stakeholders are fully informed and engaged with regulatory reporting processes.
  • Demonstrating resilience and adaptability in stakeholder interactions, employing strategic follow-up techniques to secure required information and responses within critical timelines.

Systems & Control

  • Retrieving and aggregating data from multiple databases to meet the diverse needs of the department.
  • Develop a good understanding of existing database architectures, including the relationships and data flows within them.
  • Ensuring the integrity and accessibility of data by becoming proficient in the use and structure of all current database systems.
  • Continuously updating your knowledge base to include any changes or additions to the database systems as they evolve.
  • Collaborating with IT and database management teams to enhance data retrieval processes and contributing to the development of new data solutions.
  • Making sure that reconciliations are monitored and reported in a timely manner, and any issues are investigated and resolved.
  • Maintaining and developing regulatory reporting tools and systems, improving processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency of the department.
  • Driving forward process improvements and automation of regulatory reporting using Excel, Alteryx, SQL, and Python.
  • Enhancing assurance and the control environment of end-to-end reporting and ensuring data quality, assisting in implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in regulatory reporting.
  • Managing User Acceptance Testing in respect to associated systems for Regulatory reporting


Required Skills & Experience


  • Practical knowledge of data manipulation and management techniques, with the ability to write efficient and robust Python scripts for automation and analysis purposes.
  • Experience in writing SQL queries and in database manipulation, including complex joins and merges to support data retrieval and reporting processes.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the capacity to interpret data and report findings in a meaningful way to support decision-making, and to document finding and processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail, with an organized approach to managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience and to collaborate effectively with various teams.
  • A keen learner with a proactive attitude toward professional development, showing a desire to continuously improve and expand one’s technical, analytical, and industry-specific knowledge base (including willingness to learn about regulatory reporting processes and requirements).
  • Openness to training and personal development opportunities, particularly in areas of regulatory reporting, financial industry norms, financial products, and operations processes.
  • A genuine interest in the financial services industry with a willingness to delve into and understand the complexities of regulatory reporting, and to learn about the risk and compliance requirements associated with working in a regulated environment.
  • Prior experience or understanding of IFPR and COREP reporting is an desired, but a strong willingness to learn these frameworks is equally valued.

Company benefits are provided on completion of either six months service, or a successful probation period whichever is sooner.
