There will be a General Election in 2024 and the power of students’ unions is key to making a difference for students and young people across the UK. If you’re someone who gets a buzz off building relationships with new people, shaping local and national politics and lifting the voices of students, we’d love you to be a part of our team at this exciting time.
NUS UK has launched the Manifesto for our Future, and we’re looking for someone to work across students’ unions in the run up to the Election to bring everyone on board and maximise the potential of our movement at this critical moment.
We’re a small team, focused on this huge opportunity. Your role will be vital in increasing the lobbying capacity of students’ unions, in translating our national policy asks to the ideas that win over constituency candidates and travelling around the country to hold relationships with students’ union staff, officers and students.
In NUS UK, you can expect to get involved across a range of campaign skills. Our new strategy centres digital engagement and content creation. In 2024, it hasn’t happened for students unless it’s happened online, so the ideal candidate would be able to create engaging content that centres the work of NUS UK’s elected officers and builds support behind our ideas as well as quickly adopting the digital tools we use to monitor our activity.
We’d love to hear from people who’ve got a background in students’ unions and/or influencing local and national politics and we’d be happy to explore a secondment opportunity with the right candidate – and we know Imposter Syndrome is real, so if you’re reading this and feeling excited by the opportunity, but worried about some of it, we’d love to have a chat with you and talk about what you could bring!
This is a full time, fixed term role with a London base and options for flexible/hybrid working. We aim to practice what we preach so we’re happy to offer a flexible, person-centered working environment.
Committed to Inclusion
We see anti-oppression as central to our mission. Education isn’t working unless it’s working for everyone in our society. We’re trans inclusive without exception. And we welcome individuals who are up for taking active responsibility for their own ongoing learning on liberation, equity and social justice.
We’re committed to equality of opportunity for all. We welcome applications from individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, age, gender, or disability. You can be yourself here whoever you are, be proud of the work you do and build a career in a place that knows different is good.
We recognise that candidates from Black, Asian and Minoritised-Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds are under-represented in our organisation, and that there are often additional barriers present for people from these groups when applying for roles in the charity sector and beyond. We are committed to taking positive action to expand the diversity of our staff team, and if you meet the essential criteria for a role and are from a BAME background, you'll be guaranteed a first stage interview. It is important to note that this scheme guarantees an interview for candidates who meet the minimum criteria and tell us that they'd like to be considered under the scheme. The selection decision at interview will be based on the most suitable candidate, regardless of any protected characteristic.
Please apply via our online application form, we are unable to accept CVs. If you are unable to complete or application due to accessibility needs, please contact recruitment@nus.org.uk.
Closing date for applications is Tuesday 2nd April 2024 (23:59).
If you’re successfully shortlisted, we’ll see you at an interview on Thursday 11th April 2024.
