We are currently looking for motivated individuals to join the National Operations Service (NOS) as t he National Operations Service Data Analyst for the Multi-Cancer Blood Test (MCBT) Programme.
The NHS Long Term Plan has set out key ambitions for cancer diagnosis and care. This aims to ensure that an extra 55,000 people each year will survive their cancer for five years or more, and 75% of people with cancer will be diagnosed at an early stage. Increasing earlier-stage diagnosis rates, raises the likelihood of curative treatment and improves long-term survival. The plan aims to maximise the number of cancers identified through screening.
Should the NHS-Galleri Trial meet interim goals, to be assessed in spring 2024, the NHSE MCED Blood Test Screening Pilot will offer up to 1 million Galleri tests (which has been found to predict the tissue of origin of >50 types of cancer) to asymptomatic people from summer 2024 for two years. Participants who receive a ‘Cancer Signal Detected’ result will be referred to secondary care for diagnostic testing to confirm if cancer is present.
The National Operations Service will support the NHSE MCED Blood Test Screening Pilot through the provision of 3 main operational functions:
Demand Management Team
Call Centre Team
Clinical Team
The National Operations Service Data Analyst will be responsible and accountable for proving accurate and timely data reports to the NOS Management Teams
The National Operations Service Data Analyst will support the senior management team in the delivery of the strategic priorities of the NHSE Multi-Cancer Blood Test Pilot Screening Programme.
You will be responsible for working directly with the NOS Managers, Clinicians and to specify, develop, manage, and maintain corporate information databases to meet identified business and performance management requirements. you will ensure that system security and personnel and participant confidentiality is maintained at all times. You will be an autonomous practitioner who provides business–focused and strategic guidance to senior management teams in relation to all planning and performance matters; ensuring it is in line with the local/national agenda and liaising with other teams.
Your role will be:
To provide high quality, timely and accurate information to allow the effective running of the NOS.
Utilise outputs from the Galleri Trial Management System (GTMS) and Galleri Pilot system (GPS) to develop and maintain appropriate failsafe reporting and worklists for clinical staff to ensure that all positive Cancer signals are referred appropriately to the provider Trusts so that no screening participant is lost in the system.
To develop and maintain high quality operational reports to allow the NOS teams to manage their elements services effectively.
To design and produce KPI (Key Performance Indicators) reports in line with internal and external requirements.
Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

The National Operations Service Data Analyst will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the National Operations Service (NOS) Call Centre team and Invitations team. The post holder will require to:
Receive and provide highly complex, sensitive data and analytical information, and present this to a range of audiences in a variety of formats.
Communicate internally and with other stakeholders and information users to ensure effective capture and appropriate interpretation.
Required to build effective working relationships that span operational and corporate teams and that cross organisational boundaries and maintain these relationships at times of significant change and tension, for example with, the NOS senior management team, NHS England, Cancer Alliances, NHS provider organisations and business units within the Trust.
Develop and provide a range of automated performance and operational reports for use within the NOS including KPI’s, failsafing and Quality reporting.
Have the personal presence, integrity, authority, and business understanding to speak as an equal, be listened to and to challenge assumptions at a senior level within the NOS.
Regularly communicate sensitive and contentious information effectively in writing and verbally, with individuals and groups (i.e., root cause analysis relating to participant care; commercially sensitive or ‘political’ information; management of service change; service level agreements).
Ability to analyse specialist and highly complex data sets, identify and interpret trends and report results in the most appropriate format ensuring deadlines are met.
Oversee the quality of reporting and analysis to support strategic projects and workforce planning, supporting the work of colleagues, and providing quality assurance of outputs.
Be able to analyse qualitative analytics, including complex free text information and providing advice to team members on analytical techniques using highly specialist search terms and methods.
Identify and implement appropriate techniques – including data mining methods, using judgement to advise on options for analysis.
Assess options for improving analytical outputs, taking account of highly complex factors including data quality, analysis methods, audience and user requirements and sensitivity of published data.
Ensure projects, services and initiatives are delivered on time, to quality standards and in a cost-effective manner, adjusting plans as required.
Support the planning of strategic projects, identifying data interdependencies.
