Career Grade E – PO1 £29,269 - £40,221 and essential car user allowance (subject to annual review)
(Bar at top of Grade E and SO2 – progression to SO1 subject to attainment of full corporate membership of RTPI. Progression to PO1 subject to supervision of junior staff and increased responsibilities defined in Scheme of Delegation.)
2 vacancies.
Join the Charnwood Borough Council team as a Planning/Senior Planning Officer.
ABOUT US
Picture this: an ambitious and dynamic organisation, focused on supporting local communities, looking after the environment and creating a thriving economy.
Welcome to Charnwood Borough Council! We’re not just any council – we take pride in our work and our borough, deliver outstanding customer service and work together with pace and positivity.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Working in a team of development management specialists, you will help deliver an effective and efficient planning service through the determination of a varied caseload of planning applications ranging from householders to major development proposals (depending on your level of experience). The role will provide you with experience of working with a variety of teams across Council departments and with elected representatives as well as external partners and stakeholders.
This is a career graded post and will enable the post holder to gain experience and career progression. At the top of the scale the post holder will manage more complicated planning applications and supervise their own graduate Planning Assistant. The post will therefore be suitable for someone who is already working at a Senior Planning Officer level and looking to develop their supervisory skills or for an experienced Planning Officer who is looking at taking the next step in their career. The post holder will be limited to Grade E until they attain membership of the RTPI at which point they move to SO1 and may progress up to SO2 without any restriction. Progression beyond SO2 to PO1 is subject to the Special Factors as listed in the Job Description being met and evidenced.
This is an opportunity to use your skills and talent to make a significant and immediate contribution to improving the quality of places in Charnwood and the lives of residents in our communities. We will offer you varied and plentiful experience in a busy planning office, liaising with a variety of stakeholders to effectively achieve Charnwood’s aims of supporting sustainable growth.
THE BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH US
• Agile working for many roles
• Generous annual leave of between 262.7 hours and 299.7 hours of leave (depending on grade and length of service) inclusive of bank holidays
• Most services are closed over Christmas
• Opportunities for professional development linked to many roles
• Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
• Free parking
Join us in shaping the future of Charnwood - If you share our values and have the skills we need, apply without delay!
ABOUT YOU
We are seeking to appoint two experienced planning professionals who are dynamic, motivated, and highly organised to handle a busy caseload of planning applications and be able to meet Government set targets for their determination. You will have recent experience in a development management setting with experience of handling a varied caseload and writing quality reports. You will need to be a team player and be an excellent communicator with good negotiating skills. In addition, you will need to be proactive and solution-focused and able to understand and interpret plans and policies with willingness to contribute to the delivery of excellent customer service.
BE YOU
At Charnwood, we believe in the strength of a diverse and inclusive workforce and recognise and celebrate people’s individual strengths and talents.
Our commitment to diversity makes our services better, more inclusive, and more effective.
As a Disability Confident Employer and proud holders of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Gold Award, we’re committed to creating a welcoming environment for everyone.
