Job description

Policy Director, Financial Crime and Ethics - Chartered Body - London - 12 month FTC - Circa £100k-£120k

Robert Walters are hiring for a Policy Director, Financial Crime and Ethics for a well-known membership body for finance and accountancy professionals, with 250,000 members worldwide.

This is a full-time role based out of their Central London office, but supporting 3 or 4 days per week remote working / working from home.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

The position comes with a salary of circa £100,000-£120,000 plus benefits package.

Working closely with the Managing Director and managing 6 direct reports, the Policy Director is tasked a pivotal role leading the organisation's policy work and thought leadership around the areas of financial and economic crime, and ethical issues that could result in any loss of trust in its members, or the industry sector as a whole.

Policy Work

The Policy Director is tasked with protecting the reputation of the members and the organisation in response to any high-profile or public finance crime or ethics breaches in the accountancy and finance field - For example leading the response to failures/scandals in the audit profession, or responding to public concerns about tax avoidance among large corporations.

This undertaken in part by regular interaction with government and legislators, as well as relevant industry bodies such as the FRC. The Policy Director will lead these conversations and provide direct advice to legislators, and will contribute to white papers, policy review sessions etc

This is a high-profile role and as such there will be regular interaction with broadcast, print and social media in order to communicate policy positions.

Thought Leadership

The Policy Director will also be high profile internally, and will look to communicate policy positions to the members, and set the moral compass for members and the wider industry to follow.

This involves the Director and the team working on thought leadership articles, webinars etc for view by the members, and undertaking regular projects in order to further improve the ethics approach by members and therefore reduce any instances of Financial Crime.

This position requires someone with a technical background in financial or economic crime, anti-money laundering, fraud and business law, or with experience in ethical leadership roles.

A talented leader is needed in order to lead conversations with very senior stakeholders in government and business, and also in order to manage this team and drive continuous improvement in the organisation.

A strong communicator is essential; someone comfortable with media work and who will inspire confidence in the organisation's approach.

Someone with an accounting or law background and qualifications may be a good fit - i.e. an ACA/ACCA qualified accountant with a background working at large firms, or a legal professional with experience in Financial Crime

This is a truly unique position and ideal for someone looking for a very high-profile role where they can make a large contribution to the financial ethical issues affecting the UK financial and accounting sectors and government.
