Full time

Fixed term, 18 months

£33,368 per annum

About the role:

Joining the Collection Care: Collection Management section at the British Museum, you will deliver, monitor and report on the Museum’s loans and exhibitions projects with a primary focus on National Programmes loans, including the delivery of touring exhibitions, partnership galleries and Spotlight loans.

In this diverse and stimulating role, you will work with colleagues across the Museum at all levels as well as partner museum staff and external stakeholders, in order to deliver projects that give access to the BM collection throughout the UK. You will ensure that the lending of objects is handled efficiently and in line with established sector standards and creating a lasting legacy of cooperation with partner institutions and their audiences.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Work closely with exhibition organisers at borrowing venues and with colleagues within the organisation on planning and logistical arrangements for loans out and into the Museum.
  • Ensure compliance with licences, legal requirements and statutory obligations and assist in risk identification and review.
  • Deliver standard processes, monitor and report on loans and exhibitions efficiently and effectively.
  • Advocacy for and oversight of consistent and effective processes and procedures regarding loans and exhibitions.
  • Monitor project budgets, plan financial estimates and resources required.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and maintain loans documentation.

About you:

  • With demonstrable administrative experience, in a museum/gallery or related organisation, the ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or have equivalent experience and will possess proficient IT skills.
  • Experience will include working with project processes, including budgeting and loans risk management.
  • As an excellent team player, you will be confident in communicating to a variety of audiences and finding solutions to the everyday challenges of complex object loans.
  • You will possess strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise effectively.
  • Ability to synthesise and report on information orally and in writing
  • Experience of working with a variety of UK museums
  • Practical knowledge of loan couriering, object handling, packing and display.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
