UCL established the Institute of Health Informatics (IHI) in August 2014 and is part of the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences.
The aim of the Institute of Health Informatics is to conduct quality research that leverages big data and health and bioinformatics approaches to improve health at local, national, and international levels. Our cutting-edge programs of research span the areas of Discovery Science, Precision Medicine, Learning Health Systems, Public Health and Citizen Driven Health.
About the role
Institute of Health Informatics is looking to appoint a full-time (36.5 hours per week) or part time (up to 29.20 hours per week) Research Fellow in Environmental HealthData Science to join our welcoming and vibrant Institute.
This position presents a unique opportunity to play a vital role in delivering a large-scale work program funded by The Wellcome Trust. The broad aim is to understand and mitigate the health impacts of air pollution derived from sources other than road transport (e.g. wood burning, industrial sites, farming, and indoor sources). The Research Fellow will join a friendly team of experienced Health Data scientists, statisticians and clinical epidemiologists. They will contribute to research initiatives to inform policy decisions and promote public health. A full range of duties is in the attached job description.
The post is funded until 31 May 2027, further funding may become available.
Appointment at Grade 7 (salary £42,099 - £50,585 per annum)is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £37,332 - £39,980 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. Please note salary for part time workers will be pro rata.

About you

The Research Fellow must have a PhD in epidemiology, environmental science, Health Data Science, statistics, demography, geography or other relevant quantitative science or equivalent level of attainment. They will also need experience in the analysis of large, longitudinal data sets by writing and executing code in statistical software packages (e.g. Stata or R). Experience in cleaning and management of complex databases using statistical software packages, SQL, R, Stata or equivalent is essential, as well as writing papers for peer-reviewed journals and experience in literature searching and review.
