Overview of the role The Research Officer is a vital supportive role in the Research Facilitation Team at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA). The post-holder will contribute to supporting the School’s pre-award research activities, the School’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) Submission, and coordinate the administrative activities of OSGA’s Departmental Research Ethics Committee (DREC). Selection criteria Essential 1. Good general education to A-level standard or equivalent. 2. Experience in an administrative support role, preferably in Higher Education or a similar field. 3. Ability to interpret and explain complex information to others. 4. Ability to work accurately with excellent attention to detail. 5. Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision. 6. Experience of working calmly under pressure and working successfully to tight deadlines. 7. Ability to communicate fluently and tactfully, both orally and in writing, at all levels within the University and with external organisations. 2 8. Excellent computer literacy and ability to learn new IT packages as required. Accuracy and competence in drafting, proof-reading, formatting and accuracy of information in relation to documents, websites, and office processes; 9. Ability to work, as a member of a team that is physically dispersed across different locations 10. Experience of working in University or other public sector environment; 3. Experience of the University’s costing and pricing tool (X5); 4. A good first degree or equivalent skills gained through experience in a relevant subject; 5. Recent experience of servicing committees or groups in Higher Education ; 6. Experience of preparing grant applications to UK Research Councils, the European Commission, academies, charities, foundations and trusts; 7. Experience of writing content for websites and of using web editors to upload and edit content; 8. Experience of improving operational systems and identifying, and implementing, more efficient ways of working; 9. Experience of working with a diverse community; 10. Experience of working with locally dispersed teams
