Senior Accountant

We are working with Warrington Council to find an interim Senior Accountant.
Location: Warrington. 1-2 days a week in the office.  
Hours: Full time Monday to Friday  
Day rate: £250-£300 per day dependent on experience.  
Length of role: Initial 5 months. 
Warrington Borough Council is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Corporate Finance team. This role is crucial for assisting in the closure of accounts and preparation of statutory accounts, as well as coordinating the ‘Outcome Based Budgeting’ process. The ideal candidate will have significant local authority experience and be a qualified accountant, ready to contribute to the financial integrity and strategic financial planning of the council.
Day to Day of the role:
- Closing and preparing the Council’s statutory accounts in line with professional guidelines and legislation.  
- Contributing to budget setting, financial planning, year-end, and budget monitoring processes.  
- Supporting and attending Audit & Corporate Governance Committee Meetings and other member bodies as required.  
- Coordinate budget monitoring and financial reporting processes, providing guidance and advice.  
- Provide professional financial advice and support to senior managers and external partnerships.  
- Representing the Finance Service in strategic groups and meetings, providing specific financial information/reports.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Essential experience of Local Government Closure of Accounts.  
- Public sector financial management knowledge, including treasury management regulations.  
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to develop new solutions.
