We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to take on the role of Technology Project Accountant in our Group Finance business.
This newly created position can be based in either our Edinburgh, Alderley Edge, or our London office. You will play a vital role in supporting technology projects, working closely with cross-functional teams and senior management, to ensure good financial management and performance of technology initiatives.
The successful candidate will play a key part of Royal London’s Business Finance team, working alongside strategic technology projects to validate and challenge financial forecasts, based on a deep understanding of technology, project constraints and areas of variability. You will be a valued voice collaborating with senior stakeholders to explain the linkage between project plans and expected project costs, as well as informing them on areas of concern or risk that should be taken into account.
By working with several project teams that are strategically important to Royal London, this role will influence how budgets are constructed and revised, giving greater confidence in these. Having a deep understanding of how the project delivery was anticipated, you will help identify when progress is off track and translate the impact of this into budgets and contingency use.
This role will act as a subject matter expert in the financial dynamics of our large technology projects and build knowledge on how these support Royal London’s strategy and purpose, as well as how they underpin proposition and technology roadmaps.
About the role
- Support and challenge the business on the financial management and performance of project portfolios and / or strategic projects, particularly those involving large or complex technology elements.
- Work with the project teams to ensure the resource and cost profile projections are fit for purpose and appropriate alongside ongoing challenges to the delivery effort.
- Utilising knowledge of the project cycle technical aspects of technology developments and judgements to validate forecasts, ensuring costs are grounded in expected effort and to anticipate areas of risk.
- Escalate forecast challenges to senior stakeholders for relevant projects, working with project managers in the context of the latest financial forecast and actuals.
- Act as the key point of contact for all related finance enquiries and the conduit between project teams and finance on financial and effort actuals and forecasts.
About you
- Experience of working with large technology change projects, managing actuals and forecast reporting.
- Knowledge of technology development and resource/effort forecasting approaches.
- Experience of maintaining strong relationships with business units and other non-finance colleagues.
- Experience working with senior level individuals and other senior colleagues across multiple functions, with a track record of strong stakeholder management during projects.
