Role & Responsibilities
The Build and Test department supports MAHLE Powertrain by building, instrumenting, and testing prototype engines, batteries and motors helping lead the research and development into new cutting-edge green technologies, such as Hybridisation and Electrification.
Duties
As a propulsion Test Technician, you would be carrying out the following activities
- To comply with the Health and Safety processes set out by the company
- Fit instrumentation to propulsion systems such as engines, batteries and electric motors
- Rig these systems to either dynamometers, battery test chambers or other test rigs
- Support engineers with the commissioning of the device under test (DUT)
- Running the test facility to measure DUT parameters and optimise control settings as necessary
- Support development activities with hardware changes, issue resolution
- Have a good understanding of electronic control systems
- To be able to carry out problem solving/ fault finding on the devices under test
- Have an awareness of battery/ electrification and motors
Skills and Experience
- BTEC Level 3 or equivalent apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline would be advantageous
- GCSE – Math’s, English and Science (grades 5-9)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience of propulsion testing in a similar environment
- Good organisational skills
- Good diagnostic skills with engine ECU and battery BMS systems
- Ability to improvise and use own initiative when required
- Ability to work as part of a busy team
- Experience of control systems AVL PUMA, CP CADET, or National Instruments
- Natural aptitude for problem solving
