Description
The main responsibilities for the Transport Planner role are:
Route Planning and Optimisation:
- Utilise transportation management systems (TMS) and routing software to plan efficient delivery routes, considering factors such as vehicle capacity, fuel efficiency, and delivery deadlines.
- Continuously evaluate and optimise routes to minimise mileage, reduce costs, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
Load Planning and Allocation:
- Coordinate the allocation of goods to vehicles, ensuring optimal utilisation of resources while maintaining compliance with weight and size restrictions.
- Monitor loading processes to maximise vehicle capacity and minimise empty space, reducing the need for multiple trips.
Carrier Management:
- Liaise with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pickups and deliveries, negotiate rates, and resolve any transportation-related issues in a timely manner.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers to ensure reliable and cost-effective transportation services.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
- Stay abreast of transportation regulations and industry standards, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, permits, and certifications.
- Collaborate with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary permits and licenses for transporting goods.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery rates, fuel consumption, and transportation costs, providing regular reports to management for performance evaluation.
- Analyse data trends to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
